1100 Aluminum
1100 series aluminum alloys are the principal alloys in the pure aluminum group. Due to their relative low strength they are not commonly used in general fabrication. They have excellent corrosion resistance which allows them to be widely used in food and chemical industry applications. On account of their ease of fabrication they are used where formability requirements are severe while the associated mechanical strengths are not critical.
1100 Aluminum is available in the following formats:

3003 Aluminum
3003 alloy is an aluminum manganese alloy which is rarely specified as an extruded shape since it is non-heat treatable. It is frequently used in cold worked tempers since the amount of drawing increases its mechanical properties. It can be up to 20% stronger than the 1100 series while still retaining its workability and anti-corrosion properties.
3003 Aluminum is available in the following formats:
Sheet and Coil
- Widths up to 60” (1.524m)
- Gauges between .040” (1.016mm) – .125” (3.175mm)
- H14 Temper
Plate
- Widths up to 60” (1.524m)
- Gauges between .062” (1.575mm)” – .25” (6.35mm)
- H22 Temper
5052 Aluminum
5052 is the highest strength alloy of the more common non-heat treatable grades. Fatigue strength is higher than most aluminum alloys. In addition, this grade has particularly good resistance to marine atmospheres and salt water corrosion. It has excellent workability. It may be drawn or formed into intricate shapes, and its slightly greater strength in the annealed condition minimizes tearing that occurs in 1100 and 3003. 5052 is used in a wide variety of applications including aircraft components and home appliances; marine and transportation industry parts; and heavy duty cooking utensils and bulk food processing equipment.
5052 Aluminum is available in the following formats:
Sheet
- Widths up to 60” (1.524m)
- Gauges between .025” (.635mm) – .187” (4.7498mm)
- H32 Temper
Plate
- Widths up to 48” (1.2918m)
- Gauge 0.25” (6.35mm)
- H32 Temper
6061 Aluminum
6061 is the least expensive and most versatile of the heat treatable aluminum alloys. It has most of the good qualities of aluminum, offering a range of good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It can be fabricated by most commonly used techniques, including welding and furnace brazing. In the annealed condition, it has good workability. The full range of T6 properties may be obtained by artificial aging. 6061 grade aluminum is used for a wide variety of products and applications from truck bodies and frames to screw machine parts and structural components. 6061 is used where appearance and better corrosion resistance with good strength are required.
6061 Aluminum is available in the following formats:
